ST. ALBANS: An automobile crash in St. Albans has left the wife of a former legislator dead, according to St. Albans City Police Chief Gary Taylor.

The crash happened just after 2 pm on Thursday afternoon in the Rite Aide parking lot, Taylor said.

75 year old Nancy Willett was initially transported to Northwestern Medical Center and later transferred to UVM Medical Center in Burlington for her injuries. Despite medical treatment at Vermont’s only Level I Trauma Center, Willett died of her injuries early Friday morning, Taylor stated.

The crash is being investigated as a criminal matter, according to Taylor, who did not release the name of the driver.

Willett’s husband, James Willett, served for two terms in the Vermont Legislature as well as a St. Albans City Police Officer.

No charges have been filed in connection with the case.
