Samuel A. deWahl

WILMINGTON, MA: Samuel A. deWahl, age 31, passed away Saturday, February 16th at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA, surrounded by family. He died from complications of liver failure, awaiting a transplant.

Sam was born in Burlington, VT, on March 14, 1987, to John and Jocelyn deWahl and lived in Shelburne until age 7, when he and his family moved to Enosburgh. Sam graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 2005 and attended McGill University in Montreal, QC, where he studied chemical engineering.

After university, Sam moved to Burlington, Vermont, where he reconnected with friends and family including his future wife, Laura Townsend, of Bedford, MA. He worked at United Technologies in Vergennes, Vermont, and most recently at QIAGEN, outside of Boston, overseeing facilities operations. Sam and Laura were married in Bedford, MA, on June 18, 2016.

Sam is survived by his wife Laura; her parents Doug and Kate Townsend, her sister Liz and husband Mike Lofgren and aunts and uncles in the Boston area. 

Sam is also survived by his parents, his sister Lucy deWahl of Philadelphia, PA; cousin Carol Stone of Burlington, VT; Aunt Pat Fournier of Vergennes, VT, Uncle Mike and Aunt Karen Boldosser of Easton, MD, Uncle Karl DeWahl and Aunt Val Pearson, Aunt Andi Smith and her husband Glen; and cousin Kathleen DeWahl and her wife Bri McMichael of St. Paul MN; grandmothers, Carol Adams of Shelburne, VT, and Ursula Conrad of Bismarck, ND; and cousins Matt Goodman of Malmo, Sweden, Katie Dukes of Livingston, TN, and Aaron DeWahl and wife Kelly of Hammond, IN. 

Sam is also survived by friends from all chapters of his life as well as his two cats, Willy and Boba.

Sam had a great sense of humor, love of quirky movies and TV shows, Star Wars cards, cooking, and above all playing and listening to music. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
