St. Albans Police are investigating a double fatal crash on Route 7, just north of the city line.

The St. Albans Town Fire Department responded to the call at around 12:38 pm today, along with St. Albans Police and AmCare Ambulance Service.

Investigators called in the Vermont State Police crash reconstruction team to better determine the scenario that caused the incident.

The County Courier has decided not to publish a photograph of the vehicles until police release the names of the victims involved.

The roadway remains shut down for investigators to work through rush-hour on Tuesday.

The two vehicles involved were positioned off the west side of Route 7, one pointing west, the other pointing north. One of the vehicles had a white sheet draped over the passenger side of the vehicle.

It is unclear at this point with what police have released if both fatalities were in the same vehicle, or if the two originated from different vehicles.

The vehicles involved appeared to be an older model, four-door sedan and a midsized pickup.

According to St. Albans Police Lieutenant Benjamin Couture, the head-on crash resulted in two fatalities. No further information was released.
