FAIRFIELD MAN CITED, 92 IN A 55

COLCHESTER: According to Vermont State Police, a Fairfield man was stopped for traveling 92 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone early Sunday morning, on Interstate 89.

The stop took place about a mile north of the Exit 16 interchange according to Trooper Nathan Quealy.

Quealy said that 67 year-old Fairfield resident Leo Werner was driving the vehicle at 12:29 am Sunday morning when police stopped him.

Police consider that part of I-89 as the “Winooski River Bridge Safety Corridor.” Quealy did not say how far police followed Werner before stopping him but did say they “paced” him in order to determine his speed.

Werner was issued a citation to appear in Criminal Court for Careless and Negligent Operation. His arraignment is scheduled or November 26th.

In addition to the criminal charge, police issued Werner a ticket for $558 with two points.
