Janice Marion Carl

ST. ALBANS: Janice Marion Carl, 84 passed away peacefully, May 4, 2020, with her daughters by her side at the Holiday House Residential Care facility in St. Albans. She was born February 24, 1936, to Leon “Fritz” Carl and Constawilla (Bressette) Carl in St. Albans.

Jan loved to watch and feed birds, squirrels, and chipmunks in her yard. She enjoyed shopping, so much that the neighbors probably thought she owned a UPS truck, which you would see regularly in her driveway! Her other passion for most of her life was cooking. This was something anyone could guess by seeing the 200 plus cookbooks she acquired over her lifetime.

Jan spent several years as a bartender at various places in Franklin County and many years as a rural carrier with the USPS.  On the side, she decorated beautiful cakes for weddings, birthdays, and special parties. She also loved Christmas – decorating the tree and buying gifts for her family. The family gatherings were so much fun!

Jan is survived by her children, Melanie Osorio (Dan) of Temple, PA, Wendi Hammond (Tim) of Franklin, VT, Richard Taylor (Lisa) of Swanton, VT, Christopher Taylor (Colleen Joyce) of North Hero, VT & Jennifer Taylor (Tom Fuller) of Rutland, VT; her grandchildren, Jason Voorheez (Sara Monell) of St. Albans, Heather Taylor (Scott Lampman) of Swanton, Shawn Beaudry (Elsa Campos) of Phoenix, AZ, Joshua Ouimette of Rutland, Gabrielle Taylor of Monroe, NH;  her step-grandchildren, Jenny, Sara, & Korrie Fuller, great-grandchildren, Maddex & Jaxon Ouimette of Rutland, special cousins Margaret Akey & Edna Poulin and her special cat Chloe who resides with Jason. She also had several grandchildren with four paws!

Jan was predeceased by her brother Leonard Carl in Oct 1983, mother Connie in Oct 1989, father Fritz in Oct 1990, and several special uncles and cousins. In her last few years, suffering from dementia, her daughter Wendi spent much time caring for her when needed, until her move to Holiday House in March of last year. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

We’d like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at the Holiday House for making her final year a wonderful one. They always did their best to make sure she stayed social and enjoyed a comfortable stay, right up until her final minutes.

Honoring Jan’s wishes, she will be cremated and interred in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery in St. Albans, VT. A celebration of life will be scheduled by the family at a later date.

Contributions can be made in her memory to American Legion Post #1, 100 Parah Drive, St. Albans, Vermont 05478 or American Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter, 300 Cornerstone Drive, Suite 130, Williston, Vermont 05495.
