STATE POLICE PIECING TOGETHER CLUES RELATED TO DEATH INVESTIGATION IN FLETCHER

FLETCHER: About a half a dozen Vermont State Police Troopers could be seen standing guard near the scene where a man was found around daybreak on Friday morning.

According to police, a 60-year-old man was discovered lying next to Fairfield Road in Fletcher at around 6:19 am Friday morning. The man had “extensive injuries,” according to Adam Silverman of the Vermont State Police.

The man’s identity was initially not known, but police were able to determine who the man was Friday afternoon. His identity is not being released, pending notification to his next of kin.

According to Silverman, the unresponsive man was transported to Northwestern Medical Center for treatment. He was later transported to UVM Medical Center, where he died of his injuries a few hours later.

State police are combing the area with the crime scene search team, and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation is taking the lead in the case.

The barnyard at the edge of the roadway where the man was found is owned by Robert and Linda Sweet, according to public land records.
