Mary A. Parent

ENOSBURG FALLS – Mary A. Parent, age 95, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Franklin County Health & Rehab in St. Albans.

She was born in Fairfield on May 24, 1926 to the late Gordon Sr. & Marion (Chadwick) Elwood.

Mary was a graduate of Brigham Academy, Class of 1944. She married Gerard Parent on April 29th in 1946 and they made their home in Enosburg Falls. Mary raised five children of her own, additionally she helped raise most of the neighborhood children as well. She was a second Mom to many, and her home was always the gathering spot. She was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Church. After raising her children she began working at Union Carbide in St. Albans for several years. Her favorite hobbies included reading, embroidering, and making cookies for everyone to enjoy. She will be fondly remembered for the unconditional love she gave to everyone around her.

She is survived by her children, Suzanne Gervais and her husband John, Gerard Parent and his wife Heidi, Anne Vaillancourt, and Nancy Tessier and her husband Kenneth; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Hull-Casavant; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Alyda Carpenter, Ilene Cooper, and Floyd Elwood and his wife Betty; and many nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Gerard Parent Sr., and their son, Mark “Peanut” Parent; grandchildren, Chad Vaillancourt, Tracy Tessier, and Nicholas Parent; son-in-law, Raymond Vaillancourt; and siblings, Carolyn Bushey, Eldon Elwood, and Gordon Elwood Jr.

 

Friends and family are invited to Mary’s Life Celebration to include a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, Missisquoi St., Enosburg Falls, VT. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
