Cathy Demar Pelkey

Swanton, VT: Cathy Pelkey (Demar), age 65, passed away on October 26th, 2021, after battling ongoing health problems.

She was born in St. Albans, Vermont, on August 18th, 1956, to Frank (Bozo) and Mary (Hakey) Demar who have predeceased her.

Cathy worked many years at Twincraft, and Missisquoi Valley Union High School as a receptionist where she befriended all the students-many of which remained friends to this day. Her last job was working at the bakery at Food City which she loved and only got done due to her health. She was a member of the Abenakis, and was involved in the Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) since its inception. She was the strength and glue that held her family together. She was a devoted and loving Mother and Grandmother with an open home to all. She knew the importance of education and went back to school later in life to get her diploma. She will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Christine) Adams, Jamie (Bonnie) Adams, grandson Daniel Adams whom she raised as her own. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Larry (Marsha) Demar, Karen St. Lawrence, Patricia (Gary) Chadwick, Susan Demar, Stephen Demar, David (Carolyn) Demar, Robert Demar; her grandchildren Sebastian, Evyn, Haileigh, Abigail, Savannah, Isabella, Cody, Dakota, Hannah, Daniel, Kristina, Cierra, Shelby, Cherica, Macey, Logan, Ryan, and four great-grandchildren.

Cathy was predeceased by her sons Eric Adams, and Ernest Adams.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to nurse David and Emily at NMC, and her niece Samantha Graham for her care in her last few weeks.

For those who wish, donations in Cathy’s memory may be made to Stephen Demar at 18 Elm Street, Swanton, VT 05488, to help with funeral expenses and care for Daniel.

Family and friends are invited to Cathy’s Celebration of Life Event at the Swanton VFW from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, November 13th, 2021.
