Donna L. Cook

ENOSBURG FALLS: Donna L. Cook, age 77, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

She was born in St. Albans on February 24, 1946, the daughter of the late Harold Sr. & Virginia (Wood) Foote.

Donna spent the majority of her life in Enosburgh, where she attended both elementary and high school. She then went on to complete schooling at The Sheldon Academy of Beauty Culture. She married Kenneth Cook on July 21, 1967, and the two raised their family in Enosburg Falls.

Donna was a hard worker and always kept busy. She worked various jobs including working at the Dairy Center, and the Enosburg Elementary School, driving a school bus for Wrightholm for a route in Sheldon, and eventually retiring from the State of Vermont where she enjoyed working at the Welcome Center for 12 years.

Donna looked forward to spending summers at Brookside campground, sitting by the campfire, playing Skip-Bo, watching NASCAR, or going for a ride (anywhere or anytime!). She gave loving, straight forward advice to her family and friends, and loved staying connected to them over the phone or on Facebook. She was a proud wife, mother, and grandmother, and would light up when she talked about her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Melinda Gilman and her husband Ted of Highgate, and Ann Marie Ashton of Enosburgh; grandchildren, Caleb Gilman and his wife Ashley, Seth Gilman and his fiancé Brittany LeClair, Kenneth Ashton, and Lillian Ashton and her significant other Gavin Baker; sister, Terri Bohannon and her husband Kenneth and her son Kyle Kittell and his significant other Sabrina Lacasse; her siblings-in-law, Debbie Foote, and Randall Sheperd; special friends, Bobby Tipper and his wife Rita, Debra Tipper and her late husband Jimmy; Randall Churchill, Brenda Cardinal, and Patty Pudvah; and several nieces, and nephews.

Besides her parents, Donna was predeceased by her husband of 51 years Kenneth Cook, son-in-law, Wendall Ashton; brother, Harold Foote Jr.; sister, Sheila Sheperd; and her four-legged companion, Babe.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of Donna’s family in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Donna’s memory may be made to the Vermont Kidney Association, 1 South Prospect Street, 2309 UHC Med-Nephrology, Burlington, VT, 05401.
