Joyce A. Kinney

BERKSHIRE: Joyce A. Kinney, age 81, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

She was born in Montgomery on October 15, 1941, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Doris (Mason) Doe.

Joyce grew up in Montgomery and attended the Montgomery School House. She married Alan Kinney Sr. on June 16, 1967, and moved to Berkshire where they took over the Kinney family farm. Joyce was no stranger to chores, having grown up on a farm herself, and enjoyed working side by side with Alan doing sugaring, and caring for the cows and calves. She held a special place in her heart for the barn cats.

Joyce looked forward to planting and harvesting her huge garden and canning and cooking its bounties like her famous pickled beets and boiled dinners, a family favorite. Joyce was also a talented baker and over the years made countless cakes, cookies, and breads. She enjoyed filling her evenings with sewing and crocheting and spending Sundays at the family camp in Craftsbury playing cards and having cookouts.

Above all, Joyce’s family was always the center of her life, and she adored spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her independence and fiery spirit but mostly for the strength that she exemplified and instilled in her family.

She is survived by her son, Andy Kinney and his wife Jennifer of Berkshire; grandchildren, Ada Kinney, and Michael Kinney of Berkshire; her sister, Ernestine Domina and her husband Arnold; sister-in-law, Lora Doe; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Alan Kinney Sr.; sons, Michael, and Alan Kinney Jr.; siblings, Raymond, Larry, Roger Doe Sr., Beverly Domina, and Shirley St. Cyr; and siblings-in-law, Leo St. Cyr Sr., and Clinton Wheelock.

Family and friends and invited to Joyce’s life celebration events to include visitation on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 4 – 7 pm and a funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 11 am at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT 05450.

Interment will be held this spring in the Berkshire Center Cemetery, Berkshire Center Road, Berkshire, VT.
