SWEET MAPLE, JUST CAN’T RESIST

Two burglars have been arrested after police say they broke into the Maple City Diner in St. Albans recently.

Brahin Lloyd, 28, of Philadelphia, and Naomi Gaboury, 40, of Swanton were both arrested and charged in the case, according to police.

He was held in prison on $20,000 bail pending the outcome of the case.

Court documents indicated that a safe with more than $2,000 in cash was missing from the dinner.

Video surveillance footage of the burglary showed a white female and a tall black male, with a pitbull, were the burglars.

The investigation also lead to the supply room at the diner. Court documents say that the burglars stole 20 lbs of ham, five New York strip steaks, 15 dozen eggs, a 10-pound tub of hamburger about two gallons of Maple Syrup and other miscellaneous cooking supplies, according to the police affidavit.

Later that day, police were investigating another matter just down the road (a machete brandishing man), when they discovered a safe with Maple City Diner paperwork in it.

Several days later, police received a call from Gaboury, admitting to the burglary, according to court records.

The court records showed that Gaboury told police that a man she knew, with the street name of “Legs” was the other burglar.

Two days later, the police ran into Lloyd when they were investigating suspicious activity in Taylor Park.

According to police records, Lloyd’s height (6’9”) as well as his tatoos linked him to the burglary.

Lloyd attempted to run from the officers initially, according to the court records.

According to court records, Lloyd would not identify himself for officers, though the officers believed they knew who he was.

“I called him by the street name ‘Brock,’ {He) snickered at that. {He} was still denying that his name was Brahin. To positively identify him, I printed two pictures off from his Facebook. I brought them to him, and he admitted to being Brahin. He stated, ‘You got me!’ and gave me a fist bump, St. Albans Police Officer Jason Lawton wrote in the arrest affidavit.

Lloyd had an extensive criminal history, according to court records, including being wanted in Philidelphia.
