MINTER RAISED 5X MORE FUNDS FROM OUT OF STATE DONORS THAN SCOTT

Democrat Sue Minter continues to out-fundraise her Republican opponent, Lt. Gov. Phil Scott, in the 2016 race for governor.

Although Minter leads Scott in overall money, Minter has raised more than five times more funds from out of state donors than Scott.

According to Minter’s campaign finance reports, she has raised 42% of her money from out of state donors. That compares to Scott, who has raised just 8% of his money from donors outside Great Mountain State.

The latest reports shows Minter raised $150,000 in the most recent two weeks, bringing her total to more than $1.6 million.

Scott reported raising $132,000 in the first half of October. His total for the campaign stands at close to $1.3 million.

Total spending including outside groups totals nearly reached the $10 million mark.

According to the latest reports, Minter reported spending $1.46 million on the race so far. Scott has spent $1.25 million, that’s almost every dollar he has.

Scott spent about $550,000 of his campaign money on television ads and other media purchases. Minter has spent about $850,000 of her campaign money on media.

Outside groups have played a larger role advertising. A political action committee funded by the Republican Governors Association, A Stronger Vermont, has spent approximately $1.8 million, more than a half a million in the last two weeks, those ads have largely been critical of Minter’s record.

An equivalent group funded by the Democratic Governors Association, Our Vermont, has spent more than $750,000 on advertisements going after Scott.

Many of the ads from both groups have been negative ads.

Minter has also raised $4,000 from EMILY’s list, an organization devoted to electing woman over men in politics. That organization is also funneling money into another Governor’s race, four US Senate Races, and Hillary Clinton’s election. All seven of the candidates are Democrats.

Also contributing to Minter were Don Rendall, the president of Vermont Gas Systems, a total of $500; former Commissioner of the Department of Environment, David Mears, he has donated $950.

Scott has been taking advantage of social media advertising, he has spent about $50,000 in online advertising. Minter has yet to break $1,000 on social media advertising.
