Those who were disappointed to learn of the sudden closure of St. Albans lunchtime staple, Tatro’s Gourmet Soup & Sandwich, last month can let out a sigh of relief. The popular shop has been purchased and will be open in short order under new ownership.
We’ve compiled a huge photo gallery from Tuesday evening’s matchup between the MVU Thunderbirds and the BFA St. Albans Bobwhites. Check out Thursday’s edition of the County Courier for full game coverage, including a game story by Ben Kaufmann chronicling the defensive battle.
The best thing about BFA-St. Albans’ buzzer-beating, 49-47 win over Missisquoi on December 23rd wasn’t the shock of MVU roaring out to a double-digit lead in the first half. Nor was it the pandemonium in the BFA gymnasium as the Bobwhites rallied – pandemonium that made Patrick Gym in March seem like a Tuesday night men’s league game at the Y. It wasn’t the absurdity of 17-year olds making late free throws while their parents nearly went into cardiac arrest in the stands, or even the sight of Kam Dunsmore darting between defenders and selflessly dropping a pass to Nick Voyer for the game-winning baseline lay-up.
Missisquoi exploded for five goals in the second period to take a second straight win in the form of a 6-3 victory over St. Johnsbury. Hunter Mason notched a hat trick and an assist in the effort for MVU.
The winless Commodores (0-10) have a potent lineup which makes their record mind-boggling when watching them at their best. Two weeks after losing at Enosburg, VUHS was tied with Missisquoi (8-3) at 49-49 with less than three minutes to go. In the last five days, the Commodores have been in but ultimately lost games at BFA-Fairfax, BFA-St. Albans and now MVU.
