John Norman Duval

RICHFORD: John Norman Duval, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, Vermont.

John, known as JD, was born in St. Albans, Vermont on December 8, 1937, to the late Norman and Nouvella Duval.

Raised in Richford, upon graduation from high school in 1955, John entered the Air Force, retiring after 27 years of service. While serving in the Air Force, John attended the University of Maryland where he earned a degree in Culinary Arts. John ran the Air Force Officer clubs throughout the world, his favorite being at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Living in Colorado allowed John to indulge in his passion for skiing. John loved music and dancing. He was an accomplished trumpet player, performing professionally with multiple bands in his younger years. One of John’s many talents included being a master craftsman in fine woodworking. He especially enjoyed creating intricately designed cases for clocks.

He was the loving husband of Lynette Duval, and father of Shawn Duval who predeceased him. He is survived by his sister, Norma Jean Yandow of Burlington (children, Chris, Mike, and Tom); and four sons, John of Clovis, NM (Shari, and children, Morgan, Danielle & Holly), Jim of Clovis, NM (Marisel), Jamie of Surprise AZ, (Cassie and children, Bella, Emma & Aubrey) and Shane of ND. He is also survived by his childhood sweetheart and dear friend Carol Gerard of Rexford, NY, who dutifully cared for John in his twilight years.

Family and friends are invited to John’s life celebration events on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, to include visitation from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT. A graveside memorial service with military honors will follow at 3:00 PM at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, South Main St., Richford, VT.
