The Enosburg community enjoyed a fourth opportunity to celebrate a championship title this year with a Division III Baseball state Championship win Saturday. Brayden Howrigan went the distance for top-seeded Hornets, allowing just one run while striking out nine.
The win added to a Basketball Championship, Snowboarding Championship, and Individual Track and Field Championships the Hornets earned in the last four months.
Third seed Randolph was the first team to score at Centennial Field, plating one run in the first. Enosburg answered in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs. Those runs proved to be all that the Hornets would need to secure the win.
Noah Swainbank drove in two runs for the Hornets. Solid defense and a strong performance by Howrigan proved to be enough for the Hornets to capture the program’s first state title since 2003.
We’ll have a complete game story with photos in this week’s County Courier.
