Hubert Daberer

MONTGOMERY – Hubert Daberer, age 97, longtime resident of Montgomery Center, Vermont, passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2019.

Hubert was born in Bosnia to Gottfried and Theresia (nee Schweighart) Daberer on April 6th, 1922. 

He spent his first 18 years in Yugoslavia where he grew with a strong affinity and passion for skiing. After serving in the military for six years he immigrated to the United States, settling in Cleveland, Ohio where he met his beloved wife Caroline Daberer. Together they moved to Montgomery, Vermont and founded The Corinthia Lodge (now The Inn), Alpine Haven, and Hubert became the first full-time Ski Instructor at Jay Peak Resort. Hubert lived his life with a fierce passion for the mountains, where he built his family and for the place that became his home.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline Daberer; his son, Michael Daberer (partner Annette Baker); his grandchildren, Danielle Daberer and Karl Daberer (partner Jordan Goode); and his great-grandchild, Finnleigh Daberer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 18th, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Isidore’s Catholic Church, Mountain Rd., Montgomery Center, VT.
