DRIVER CAUGHT AFTER FATAL HIT AND RUN IN HIGHGATE

HIGHGATE: The Vermont State Police crash reconstruction team was working at the intersection of Hanna Road and Durkee Road in Highgate today, investigating a crash that killed a 57-year-old woman who lived nearby.

According to St. Albans Police Chief Gary Taylor, whose department is taking the lead in the investigation, the driver left the scene of the crash.

Taylor said a 911 call came into the Dispatch Center at 9:19am, Thursday morning, to report a crash at the intersection. While the caller was talking with the 911 operator, he realized the vehicle that had crashed hit his wife, Wendy Lambert, who was out for a walk with their dog.

Taylor said lifesaving measures were attempted on Lambert as she laid unconscious in the roadway, but those efforts ultimately were not enough to save her life.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Regon Lowe, of Colchester, fled the scene, but left behind his rear bumper, which came off the vehicle during the crash.

Vermont State Police located the vehicle, and pulled it over at the intersection of Fisher Pond Road and Route 36 in St. Albans a short time later, according to Taylor. Lowe was driving and admitted to police that he was involved in the crash.

According to Chief Gary Taylor, the Colchester man told police he was in the area visiting a friend.

It is unclear if or when Lowe will be arraigned in connection with the crash, or what the charges may be. We’ll continue to report as we have more information.
