ALBURGH – Nina M. Pelkey, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at the St. Albans Health and Rehabilitation Center in St. Albans.
She was born in Clarenceville, Quebec on May 17, 1929 to the late Thomas and Matilda (LaCombe) Shedrick.
Nina moved to Watertown, NY with her family as a young girl before eventually moving to Alburgh, VT. From a young age she gave up her schooling to help her parents raise her deceased sister’s son. She met her late husband Wallace and raised three children.
Nina spent most of her working career at the Alburgh School preparing hot lunches for generations of students which she came to love as her own. She made a career playing Bingo, as she was an avid Bingo player. Nina was very religious and incredibly generous; she never missed the opportunity to support her family. You never went hungry at Grandma’s house. Nina had the best stories of her childhood and teenage years that her family will cherish. While she was living in Alburgh, she could always be seen sitting on her front porch with a cup of tea. In her later years, she enjoyed and looked forward to outings with her daughter, Connie.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Connie Shedrick of Clarenceville, Quebec; and son, Wally Pelkey and his wife Judy of Alburgh. Nina’s love for her grandchildren was evident and they were the light of her life, she leaves grandchildren, Merry (Pelkey) Hill, Wally D.
