RECENT DUI ARRESTS
• Michael Schrader, 35, of Fairfield was arrested for DUI (refusal) after being stopped on Sherry Road in South Burlington on March 7th.
According to State Police, a tip was received about Schrader possibly traveling from Fairfield to a South Burlington address while being intoxicated. Responding Troopers located Schrader at around 5:55 pm, police said. He was processed for DUI and released with a citation to appear at Chittenden County Superior Court on May 4th to answer to the criminal charge.
• Benoit Pothier, 62, of Enosburg Falls was arrested by Vermont State Police on February 21st, after being stopped on Route 105 in Swanton.
According to police, Pothier was stopped around 8:28 pm after a Trooper witnessed a “motor vehicle violation.” Court records show that Pothier failed to use his turn signal, which triggered the stop.
Pothier denied consuming any alcohol, according to his court file, and refused to provide a preliminary breath test on the side of the highway.
According to his court file, Pothier later provided an evidentiary breath test when back at the State Police Barracks. That test, taken about two hours after he was innitially pulled over, registered his blood alcohol content at 0.117%, not quite one and a half times the legal limit for driving in Vermont.
Even though Pothier has two previous DUI convictions on his Vermont record, he was issued a citation to appear in criminal court to answer to the DUI #2 charge. The penalty for a conviction could be up to 2 years to serve, and a fine up to $1,500.
• John Morrill, 57, of Swanton was charged with DUI after police say he crashed his vehicle on the Middle Road in Swanton on the afternoon of January 28th.
Morrill left the scene on foot, according to police, but witnesses said he appeared to be intoxicated.
After police responded to the area, they checked at Morrill’s home on Spring Street, where he “briefly fled on foot,” according to the Trooper. He was apprehended, charged with DUI #2, and leaving the scene of a crash, and released with a citation to appear in criminal court on March 22nd.
• Amanda Stuart, 42, of St. Albans was cited into criminal court for DUI after crashing her vehicle on Route 7 in Georgia on February 18th, according to State Police.
The 2017 Nissan Rogue was discovered off the road near Oakland Station Road around 6:21 pm, the Trooper said.
Police did not release details on the arrest, including the BAC of the driver, but did say she appeared to show signs of impairment. She was later released to appear at criminal court to answer to the criminal charge.
• Joseph Potvin, 21, of Georgia was cited into criminal court after police say he crashed his 2019 Nissan Rogue on I89 in Georgia on February 19th.
The crash occurred around 10:56 pm, according to police. Potvin showed signs of impairment, according to police, but the Trooper did not release information on what those signs of impairment were.
