Elisabeth Anne Erno (Lis)
ENOSBURG FALLS: Elisabeth Anne Erno (Lis) passed away on June 23, 2022, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, with her loving family by her side. Lis was just shy of 87 years old.
Lis was born on June 30, 1935 in Amherst, NH, the daughter of Alfred Henwood and Dorothy Henwood.
She moved to Vermont in 1949 where she eventually met her future husband, E. Maxwell Erno. Lis and Max were married on December 27, 1953. They settled on a farm on the Sheldon/Franklin town border where they raised their family.
After her farming years, Lis held a variety of jobs over the years. She was employed at the Franklin General Store, the Enosburg Meat Lockers, she did private residential house cleaning, and for several years she was a private caregiver for those in their last years of life.
As a young teenager, Lis left formal education to assist her immediate family in raising her younger siblings. Lis always wanted to complete her high school education and fulfilled that lifelong dream when she received her diploma from Enosburg Falls High School in 1988. She moved to Enosburg Falls in February 2019.
Lis will be fondly remembered for the many baby blankets she lovingly knit for family and friends, her beautiful flower gardens, her enjoyment of bird watching, and her kitties, ‘Little Girl’ and ‘Snookums’.
Lis leaves her children Ernest ‘Ernie’ Erno, Kathy (Larry) Kreber, John Erno (Sarah Tibbits), Thomas (Lori) Erno, and Betty Rivard; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who were the light of her life; and long-time family friend Deborah Lewis. Lis is also survived by several nieces and nephews; two sisters and two brothers. Besides her parents, Lis is predeceased by her husband and their sons, Hugh Erno, Richard Erno; and Lis’ two brothers and a sister.
The family will be having a private Celebration of her Life.
Condolences to the family may be sent to P.O. Box 864, Enosburg Falls, VT 05450.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lis’ memory would be appreciated to the Cold Hollow Hose & Ladder Company, which benefits the Enosburgh Fire Department, at P.O. Box 496 Enosburg Falls, VT 05450, with the memo: In Memory of Elisabeth Erno.
