Pearl Mary Cyr

SWANTON: Pearl Mary Cyr, age 94, completed her journey to heaven on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at 7:00 pm, at Our Lady of the Meadows with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Highgate Springs, Vermont, on November 22, 1927, to the late Mary Nellie (LaFrance) and Arthur Vanslette.

Pearl attended school at Highgate and went to work early in her life. She worked for the Tyler Place, which led her to move to New York City as a full-time nanny. After marrying Lee on September 4, 1954, she became a homemaker; while continuing to work at the Tyler Place and at Union Carbide where she became the plant ping-pong champion. Pearl was a fantastic homemaker, a great cook and her chocolate chip cookies were the best! She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

When Pearl could no longer drive, she would bike everywhere. She would bike miles and miles to visit her sisters and brother and to accomplish her errands. She was an avid traveler in her later years, visiting Alaska, Hawaii, and many other places, with her best friend and companion Gardner Palmer. She loved being with her family and grandchildren, listening to music, knitting, crocheting, working on puzzles, and playing cards; she was an excellent 500 card player.

Pearl was able to remain in her home for many years thanks to the loving care of her daughter Sue McEwen and husband Mark. She also spent many of her last years going to Care Partner Adult Center where she enjoyed the company of her many friends.

Pearl is survived by her daughters, Debbie Kittell and her husband Jeff, Lisa Lumbra and her husband Hilton, Maria Ritchie, Lynn Cyr, Pam Cyr and her husband Rich Pearl, and Sue McEwen and her husband Mark; sister, Hazel Ledoux; brother, Victor Vanslette and his wife Charlotte; grandchildren, Travis, Stacie, Jeremy, Jonathan, Katie, Tarah, Jessica, Alex, and Avery; very dear niece, Karen Jarvis; along with many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
