James M. “Jim” Bowlby
ENOSBURG FALLS: We are heartbroken to announce the death of our loving father, James M. Bowlby a longtime community resident, on Saturday evening, January 14th, 2023, in the comfort of his home.
He was born on August 26, 1936, in Upper TurkeyFoot, PA the son of the late George and Alzada (Bills) Bowlby. Jim was 86 years old.
Jim was married to Nancy Jane (Berger) Bowlby for 53 years, she predeceased him on May 10th, 2014.
Jim was educated in Pennsylvania, and following graduation in 1955 he joined the U.S. Air Force. Upon his move to Vermont, he was employed for 35 years at General Electric in Burlington. He then moved on to IBM and retired from there following five years of employment.
Jim was a kindhearted man and was always ready to lend a hand if he could and with a smile. Jim was part of a barbershop quartet (3 Jims and a Guy) when he was younger. He enjoyed leather-working and boating at his camp on Fairfield Pond.
Jim is survived by his children, Reba and Mike Fairbanks, Vicki and her partner, Robert Burnell, Rodney and Lisa Bowlby, Bradley Bowlby and his partner, Wendy Morgan; and Steven Bowlby and his partner, Dewey, who were Jim’s caregivers. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; his brother, John “Jack” Bowlby and his wife, Pauline, his sister, Linda Lephart; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Nancy, Jim was predeceased by his grandson, Michael Bowlby, a great-grandson, Dawson Perley, brothers, Raymond and William, and sister, Shirley Hearn.
A celebration of Jim’s life is being planned for the summer of 2023 and will be announced at a later date.
