Wayne M. Wetherby ‘Mickey’
KINGSLAND, GA / RICHFORD: Wayne M. Wetherby, age 81, passed away on April 24, 2023, at the University of Florida Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, with his loved ones by his side.
He was born on July 2, 1941, in Enosburg Falls, the son of Harold and Claire (Greene) Wetherby. Mickey grew up in Richford where he lived the majority of his life.
Mickey’s career as an auto body repairman spanned over 40 years. In his earlier working years, he was employed at Champlain Chevrolet, then he was at Dutch Dudley’s Garage in Richford, and later on he operated his own auto body shop, also in Richford, for 15 years.
Mickey was involved in the Richford Jaycees, he was always willing to help others. He was a workaholic and a perfectionist who had a meticulous yard. He enjoyed repairing lawnmowers and could be found at various flea markets and yard sales. He was well known for over decorating during the Christmas season.
Mickey is survived by his wife Ola Jacob Wetherby; his four children and eight grandchildren and their families: John and Mary Wetherby of Richford and their children Courtney (Brad) Bates of Enosburg Falls, and Shelby (Alex) Baron of Richford; Robin Keller of St. Albans and her children Natossiah Keller of St. Albans, Derreck Keller of Wisconsin, Skuyler Francis Keller and Donna Francis Keller both of Burlington; Roxanne Thompson of Kindland, GA, and her children Jarryka Thompson and Shay Thompson of CA; and Laura (Stephen) Gillespie of Nicholls, GA; and his 14 great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by his brother Fred Wetherby of Winchester, NH, and his sister Martha Sweet of Richford; as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mickey is predeceased by his son Gary Wetherby; and his siblings Harold Wetherby Jr., Albert Wetherby, and June Wetherby Swift.
Services and burial for Mickey will be at a later date at the convenience of his family.
