October 21: Our monthly Senior Dinner, prepared by Parma Jewett and served by volunteers, was a Boiled Dinner with homemade rolls and white cake with maple frosting. It was well attended and sincerely appreciated. Sandy Baddorf surprised us, as she stopped in at the Senior meal, to say “Hi,” on her way to visit friends while here in Town. Lois Babbitt and her sister Doris were absent as they went on a Foliage ride up near Lake Willoughby seeing it was such a nice day. She said the foliage was pretty however as they drove into their driveway at home, their maple trees were as gorgeous as any that they had seen on their ride, a beautiful red. Maggie Elkins also shared her foliage story, as she can see the cemetery hill up behind me from her front porch. She watched the leaves coming down slowly with the wind. It was as if the tree was moving and the leaves created a golden halo around the tree, it was absolutely beautiful. She wishes she had taken a video of it. The trees here in the Village have just about all lost their leaves. Our lawn, the neighbors’ lawn, and the sidewalk were deep in leaves.

Wednesday afternoon Penny used the lawn mower to mulch the leaves. I helped pick them up, as she wanted them for her garden. We had three wheelbarrow loads. Thursday morning you would not believe we had done anything, as the lawn and sidewalk were once again covered. Saturday afternoon was too cold to start a lawn mower and the wind was so brisk. Hopefully, the leaves will be dry when it warms up later this week, to mulch more of them.

October 26: Veronica came over to go out for a Birthday breakfast at Bernie’s.  Yes, Penny and the Birthday Mom met Veronica for our 10:30 AM breakfast, it was delicious!!  Then I visited the Lil Crafty Gift Shop before returning home. Veronica was scheduled to be at the Center of Arts from 12-2 pm. My nephew, Stephen, and his special lady Sue Allen stopped in for a wonderful afternoon of visiting, memories, and laughs. They will be leaving St. Albans soon for their new home in Hickory, NC.

October 27: Our Church Service was prepared and led by John Gorton with scripture readings by Sandy Bowman and Vivian Elbe. Lois Lumbra was pleasantly surprised by the Church family who presented her with a signed birthday card and sang Happy Birthday.
The Skate and Bike Event was held at the Rec Center today with Chicken BBQ, despite the cold day. Penny and I got the delicious BBQ Chicken. The children were all having fun on the skateboards. Penny checked out the Haunted Forest the 8th graders planned for an early Halloween event. I hope everyone had a fun time, it was too scary for me.

This afternoon there is a Pumpkin Carving and Pot Luck meal at the Art Center at 4 pm. I love seeing all the Jack-o-lanterns. I went from table to table watching the parents help their child make a Jack-o-lantern.  Melissa Haberman said to be sure and thank Hartman’s and Beaver Meadows for donating pumpkins for this event. I wanted to mention in this News column a few of the parents I chatted with were Elliot Cluba and his daughters, Kyle & Sauni Lawyer and children, Zachary & Nicholas Elliott, Allison & Rose Witherspoon, Suzanne Dollois and children, Talia Roberts, Wesley Skidmore, Chi, and Marlene. It was a wonderful family event.

Chuckles for the week:
• I remember when daylight savings wasn’t a thing.  How time has changed! (Remembering to change our clocks on 11/3/24).

• They say daylight savings time is such a great idea.  I’ll give it six months.

• Q: What kind of key cannot open a door?  A: A Tur-Key.

• Q: What kind of weather does a turkey like?  Fowl weather.

I will enjoy seeing all the little ones coming for Halloween accompanied by their parents, AND we are forecasted to have a nice warm evening.
Keep safe and happy. Love to you, LL
