NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WARNS OF EXTREME HEAT TODAY, TOMORROW
The National Weather Service is warning of extreme heat beginning today at noon and extending through the end of the day tomorrow.
According to NOAA-Burlington, the heat index for the Champlain Valley is expected to reach as high as 100 degrees.
Actual temperatures are expected to peak at about 94 degrees Fahrenheit today, and 95 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow, but with high humidity and low wind expected, the feels like condition could hit triple digits.
The hazy, hot, and humid weather is expected to break on tomorrow night, with rain expected on Saturday, as a tropical-like low-pressure system makes its way into New York and New England. That system was positioned near the Outer Banks of North Carolina as of Thursday morning, making the weekend weather predictions tricky and uncertain.
Thunderstorms today and tomorrow are expected to be few and far between, according to the National Weather Service.
The morning commute tomorrow could be foggy for many, especially for those who are traveling through valleys.
The Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, stay inside air-conditioned structures and out of the sun, and check up on neighbors and elderly relatives.
They also want to remind everyone not to leave pets or children unattended in a vehicle under any circumstance. Even air conditioned vehicles can stop running, and cause a dangerous situation for the occupants very quickly.
Those who are working outside should take extra precautions, and know the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
People spending time outside should look to wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing whenever possible.
OSHA recommends frequent breaks in a shaded or air-conditioned area for those on the job during a heat advisory.
