Lawrence Robert Hoague

ST.ALBANS/SWAMTON: Lawrence Robert Hoague passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25th, 2022, at his home with his family by his side. He was 83 years old.

Larry also known as “Uncle Larry” was a longtime resident of Swanton and St. Albans. Born in Swanton, he was one of nine children to the late Hector and Noella (Wells) Hoague-Bellrose.

Larry spent his working career of 44 years at Central Vermont Public Railroad, where he was Assistant Foreman in the Bridge and Building Department. His territory extended from New London, Connecticut to St. Albans. Larry was also responsible for keeping the crossing at the Alburgh bridge safely cleared during the winter months. He was instrumental in keeping the Southern Division running smoothly and was highly respected by management.

He was an active sportsman and former member of the Franklin County Sportsman Club and Pelkey’s archery. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, bicycling, bowling, skating, all things outdoors and with his love of music, he enjoyed playing the guitar and organ. He also participated in the annual Swanton Car Show with his favorite red Firebird. Larry also liked going to the Casino in later years.

In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his former wife, Jacqueline E. (Constantine) Hoague on May 23, 2003; his brothers, Ronald, Clarence, Wilson, and Timothy Hoague; his sister, Elaine Ringler and Betty’s granddaughter, Ciearra Lynn Parent.

Larry is survived by his three daughters, Lori Hoague, Wendy Garey (Brian) and Heather Caster (Chris); grandchildren, Ian Garey, Logan Garey (Carmen), Benjamin Pearce, Luke Pearce, Emma Caster, Jack Caster, as well as his great-grandchildren, Ava Garey and Leo Huffman and his companion, Betty Blodgett and her daughters, Lisa Grzunov (Emil) and Ashley Jerome (Allen); her son, Peter Donaghy and grandchildren, Shyannne Beltran and Kisha Haynes.

Also surviving Larry is his sister, Linda Owens and his brothers, Lynford Hoague (Dore) and John Hoague (Kelly); many nieces, nephews, and his good friend and hunting buddy, David Gagne.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Canada Street, Swanton.
