David Royce Holcomb
ST. ALBANS: David Royce Holcomb, a longtime resident of this community, passed away at the UVM Medical Center on Thursday, March 14, 2024, with his wife, Betsy, at his side.
Born in Burlington on June 23rd, 1939, he was the son of the late Howard and Dorothy (Deforge) Holcomb. David was 84 years old.
David was educated in Burlington and was a 1956 graduate of Burlington High School. After high school, he entered the U.S. Navy serving on several aircraft carriers, cruisers and destroyers during the Vietnam War. He was a 36-year member of the Champlain Cable family. Later in life, David was known as the infamous birdhouse man. Franklin County was blessed with many of David’s beautiful birdhouses that he crafted in his woodworking shop over the years.
Survivors include his true love Betsy Jane (Carpenter) Holcomb; their children Jay Holcomb, David Holcomb, and Tammy Woodard (Neal); his grandchildren Jordan Soutiere, Whitney Parah, Maddison Holcomb, and Morgan Holcomb, and great-grandchildren Levi and Emelia Shepard; and his very close family friend Laurie Noyes. David is also survived by his sisters Suzanne Murray and Sally Miller; many dear friends at the campground; and his beloved four-legged canine companion Baily.
In addition to his parents, Howard and Dorothy, David was predeceased by his infant daughter, Kelly Holcomb, his son, Chris Holcomb in October of 2022, and his brothers Dale and Gary Holcomb, and Phillip Mead.
A funeral service at the Heald Funeral Home will be announced at a later date.
