POLICE: ATTEMPTED MURDER IN ST. ALBANS SUNDAY MORNING
ST. ALBANS: Police have arrested a man they say tried to run down his ex-girlfriend after he saw her dancing with another man.
Chad Ely, 28, of St Albans allegedly used to date the victim, who was transported to the hospital with a severe head injury, according to police.
According to police, Ely was at the Karib nightclub in St. Albans when his ex-wife, Amanda Carr started dancing with Matthew Boutin. Ely’s jealousy allegedly got the best of him, because when Carr left the nightclub for the evening, Ely ran her down in his car.
Witnesses told police that Ely backed up his black Chrysler 200, got a running start, and then swerved onto the sidewalk hitting Carr and two other bystanders before fleeing the scene.
Police said the two bystanders, Charles Gagnon, 31 and Matthew Boutin, 27, sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Police tracked down Ely at his home, but the man refused to talk to meet with police.
“A short time later a family member arrived at Ely’s residence and was able to make contact with Ely and convince him to come out and turn himself into police,” Gary Taylor, the St. Albans Police Chief said in a written statement.
Ely is being charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Aggravated Domestic Assault.
Ely is being held at Northwest State Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail. He’ll be due in court Monday for arraignment.
