POLICE CATCH BANK BANDIT
ST. ALBANS: Gary Taylor, the police chief in St. Albans City says his officers have arrested the man they believe held up the Citizen’s Bank this morning.
“Based on the description given by the bank tellers and evidence found at the scene the St Albans Police Department were able to identify the suspect as 53-year-old Benjamin Edwards of St Albans,” Taylor said in a written statement.
Around 10 a.m., police spotted the suspect in a motor vehicle on South Main Street. They stopped the vehicle near the intersection of the Interstate Access Road and Main Street. Edwards was subsequently taken into custody without incident

On December 7, 2016 at approximately 9:16 a.m. the St Albans Police Department responded to the Citizens Bank located at 152 South Main Street in the City of Saint Albans for a report of a bank robbery that had just occurred.
Edwards’ daughter, Annette Edwards, was arrested in a drug bust on Federal Street earlier this year. Benjamin Edwards took the stand in her arraignment to get his daughter released into his custody as a ‘responsible adult.’
Edwards’ son was arrested and convicted of a heroin-related charge in St. Albans a couple of years ago.
The St. Albans Police Department anticipates that he will be arraigned at the Franklin County Superior Court and charged with Assault and Robbery early this afternoon, Taylor said.
It is not clear what the status of Annette Edwards’ conditions of release will be with her father’s new charges, or if Edwards’ conditions are even still in place.
