TROOPERS: BAKERSFIELD MAN ASSAULTED MOTHER, FRIEND
A Bakersfield man is behind bars tonight after police say he assaulted his 72 year-old mother as well as another female friend staying at their home.
The County Courier has a policy not to name alleged victims in domestic assault cases.
According to the Vermont State Police and court records, Tyler Blanchard, 35, of Bakersfield threw his mother to the floor in a drunken fit of rage while saying “go upstairs you old bitty.”
Blanchard has a criminal record for previous domestic assaults.
Police say that Blanchard was highly intoxicated and possessed marijuana when he was arrested.

“She stated that she was sleeping on the couch when the defendant attacked her. She advised that the defendant lunged at her while she was sleeping on the couch and was grabbing her through with his hand” Trooper Quealy wrote to the court, describing the encounter between Blanchard and the female friend that was also injured Monday evening.
Blanchard told the court that he only has a problem with alcohol and the marijuana doesn’t affect his behavior like this.
Police said that when they arrested Blanchard, he was extremely uncooperative, even attempting to fight the three State Trooper when they told him he was under arrest, according to court documents.
Blanchard was charged with felony aggravated domestic assault in the first degree with a prior offense, aggravated assault, and resisting arrest. All told, he is facing up to 31 years and $35,000 in fines.
Blanchard denied the charges in court on Tuesday.
Judge Gregory Rainville held Blanchard without bail until a responsible adult could take responsibility for him. He is currently being housed at Northwest Correctional Center.
