HIGHGATE: Around 6 pm on Monday, police received a call of a home invasion at a home in Highgate.

According to a press release, Franklin County Sheriff’s, Swanton Police and Vermont State Police responded to the home on Route 78.

Vermont State Police Detective Sergeant Richard Desany said that two “non-caucasian males” entered the home, brandishing a weapon, according to the victim.

Police said that they do not suspect that this was a random act, though they did not elaborate on why.

The home, which is located just east of the Franklin Road on Route 78, sits on the top of a knoll and is not visible from the road

Police said that the resident was home at the time, and was not injured in the incident.

“There were small items and money taken, by the males, from the residence,” said Sergeant  Desany.

Even though police identified the woman in a late-night press release, the County Courier had decided not to publish her name.

Police are asking for the public’s help in the case. If you have any information that may help police, or if you were in the area at the time and saw something suspicious, you are asked to call the Vermont State Police, St. Albans Barracks at 524-5993.
