Enosburg senior Sophie Burns was named to Vermont’s Lions Twin State Soccer squad and will join other Vermont high school seniors for a contest against the best seniors from New Hampshire on July 17.

Burns tallied 19 goals in leading her Hornets to an unbeaten regular season this fall. Enosburg concluded the shortened season 7-0 and earned the No. 1 seed before falling to No. 4 Vergennes in the Division III semifinals. Burns was named Player of the Year for the Mountain League in 2020 and was honored with First Team All-Mountain honors. Teammates Megan Severance, Emily Adams and Zoe McGee were also honored as First Team All-Mountain.

Following a cancelled Lions Twin State Game in 2020, Vermont and New Hampshire are expected to resume the traditional showdown at Hanover (NH) High School this summer. Burns will be joined by one of her Enosburg coaches, Renee Pattee, who is an assistant for the Lions Twin State Vermont team. Pattee was also honored as a 2020 Mountain League Coach of the Year along with Hornet coach Rodney Burns. Milton’s Shawntel Burke is also a coach for the Vermont team.

Burns wrapped her high school career with 45 goals, likely only missing the prestigious 50-goal milestone because the season was shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. You can expect Burns to wait until summer to focus on the Lions Twin State Game, she’s a key player for Enosburg’s basketball team which is currently ranked No. 2 in its division with only one regular season game remaining.

From the Lions Twin State Soccer Association Inc. press release: The Lions Twin State Soccer Association is a non-profit organization devoted to the celebration of athletic achievement while promoting fellowship through combined charitable acts and interpersonal relations. The net proceeds from the games benefit the Green Mountain Lions Camp for hearing impaired children and the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation of New Hampshire that provides assistance for those needing hearing aids and eye surgeries.
