VSP: SCAMMERS USING SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT PHONE NUMBER
Vermont State Police say a Charlotte man was the victim of a phone scam, where the caller claimed to be a Deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Trooper Leise, the calls are being investigated, and are coming from (802) 242-0377, but the calls are not valid, and they are actually not coming from law enforcement.
“The scammer advises that they are a Deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Civil Warrant Processing Unit,” the Trooper said, “The scammer subsequently requests monetary funds via Western Union.”
According to police, the incidents are being investigated and the Attorney General’s Office is being consulted in connection with the incidents.
