STATE POLICE CHARGE RICHFORD MAN WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER, HATE CRIME, OTHER CHARGES
Vermont State Police Trooper Ashley Farmer was called to a private residence on Troy Street in the Town of Richford on Wednesday morning for the report of attempted murder, according to Vermont State Police.
The call, which came in at around 9:10am accused Anthony Mason, 27, of Richford of driving his black pickup truck onto the lawn of 27 year old Michael Wilson, also of Richford.
According to police, Mason drove the truck through the lawn of Wilson’s home on Troy Street while shouting racial slurs and threatening to kill Wilson.
According to police, Mason crashed his truck into the porch near where Wilson and his dog were standing, allegedly also driving over a dirt bike.
Wilson, who is a black man, told police that Mason was trying to kill him.
Police later arrested Mason without incident, according to Vermont State Police spokesperson Adam Silverman. He was transported to Northwestern Correctional Center where he will be held on $10,000 bail until his arraignment on Thursday.
Due to the nature of the crime, police, in consultation with the Franklin County State’s Attorney Jim Hughes, charged Mason with Attempted Second Degree Murder, Grossly Negligent Operation of a motor vehicle, Unlawful Mischief, and added a hate-crime enhancement due to the racial slurs.
Mason is due to be arraigned on Thursday, May 6th at 1pm on those charges.
