Sherwood G. Smith

ENOSBURGH: Sherwood G. Smith, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2022 at his home. Sherwood was born on July 30, 1946 to the late Maurice and Norma Smith.

Sherwood enlisted in the Navy in 1963 and went active duty upon his high school graduation from Johnson High School in 1965; his duties included a tour in Vietnam.

Sherwood married Mona Hunt in1975 and they settled in Johnson. In May 1983, they relocated and made their home in West Enosburgh with their two sons.

Sherwood was employed by Tri-Angle Metal Fab in Milton for 23 years. Since his retirement he enjoyed woodworking and loved working on his home. He loved spending time with his family and attending cookouts next door at his in-laws. Sherwood loved to garden and every year he would plant multiple flowers out in front of his home and also planted a garden. He loved hunting and fishing. He looked forward to the hunting season every year and to also spend that time with his brother.

Sherwood is survived by his wife of 46 years Mona (Hunt) Smith, brother Garth Smith (Donna), brothers-in-law Elroy Hunt, Dale Hunt (Rhoda), and sister-in-law Sherry Hunt (NancyJoe Xavier). He is survived by his children: Sherwood M. Smith (Nancy) of Milfred, KS, Austin R. Smith (Katherine Turgeon) of Enosburg Falls, Elizabeth Chapin of Graniteville, VT; 10 grandchildren including Chance Smith; two very special young ladies that he thought of as his own grandchildren, Briana and Monica St. Francis; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a very close and special niece that was always there to lend a helping hand and became his personal barber over the last few years, Tyconia Westover (Richard), and a very special niece that would come to help redo his kitchen Penny Brock (Troy); and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Sherwood was predeceased by his parents, his sister-in-law Linda Hunt, and a great-granddaughter Allie Smith.

Per Sherwood’s wishes, there will be no public services. The family will hold a private gathering in the summer.

Rest easy Sailor, your tour of duty is over, we have you covered on the frontlines. You will forever be remembered and missed by all that knew you.
