James A. Carpenter

FAIRFIELD: James A. Carpenter passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at his home with his wife, children, and brother by his side. He was 66 years old.

Jim was born in Burlington on October 21, 1955, to the late Earl & Hilda (Adams) Carpenter.

Jim graduated from Essex Junction High School in 1973. He earned two associate degrees from Champlain College, the first in law enforcement in 1977 and the second in mechanical engineering in 1989. He worked in the maintenance department at IBM for 26 years before a heart condition forced him into early retirement.

He was an eclectic man and loved collecting anything related to music, books, and movies. Jim had the best dry sense of humor and could make a whole room light up with laughter after one of his famous one-liners or Facebook posts. He was a devoted Red Sox fan and could often be found sitting in his chair watching a game, or episode of Sopranos with his dog Bailey on his lap. Jim embodied many traits of an exemplary father, most notably he was selfless, and cherished the time he spent with his family, particularly his grandson Brantley.

Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janet Carpenter of Fairfield; their children, Kyle J. Carpenter and his significant other Danielle Marshall of Sheldon, and Jessica M. Brunelle and her husband Adam, and their son Brantley of Fairfield; his brother, Richard Carpenter of Fairfield; siblings-in-law, Joan Lumbra and her husband Craig, Carol Hodges, and Jeff Clark and his wife Peggy; and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Bernard & Betty Clark; and his brothers-in-law, Danny and Larry Clark.

Friends & family are invited to Jim’s life celebration on Thursday, September 29, 2022, to include a funeral service at 5:00 PM with a reception to immediately follow until 8:00 PM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will be held at the family’s convenience in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Fairfield.
