Hans A. Jaensch

BERKSHIRE: Hans A. Jaensch of Berkshire Center, Vermont, age 86, died suddenly of a heart-related illness on Jan 2, 2023.

He is predeceased by his bride of 64 years, Elfriede Jaensch, his son Hermann Jaensch and daughter Diana Jaensch. He is survived by his daughter Kathy Jaensch and her husband David Woolsey of Maine, his daughter-in-law Kelly Jaensch, son-in-law Michael Axelrod and grandchildren Tyla Axelrod, Henry Jaensch, and Kaitlyn Jaensch, all of New York; and by Christa and Eckart Bartels and their family of Haltern, Germany.

Hans was born in Nordenham, Germany, and learned woodworking and cabinetry in the shipyard of Bremerhaven. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1955. He came to beautiful Vermont from Yorktown Heights, New York 32 years ago to continue his talented work at his company Berkshire Woodworking and ran a Christmas tree farm for many years.

Hans was a humble, warm, and caring man, who gave generously of his time and loved a good joke, be it in English or German. He liked nothing better than to share a good meal and hearty laughter with family and friends. His workshop was a center for creative work and a good time for those friends who became regulars – a happy crew.

He was also strong in his love for God and was deeply connected to his fellow worshippers at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Jericho, VT. His extended family of the heart.

Love of family, the openness of spirit, and a big smile with that deep broad voice made him a treasure, one that many will keenly miss. He continues in our hearts and we share his deep love with others.

Friends and family are invited to Hans’ life celebration to include visitation from 3 – 5 pm with a Memorial Service starting at 5 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT with Rev. Dr. Arnold Thomas officiating. A memorial service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is being planned for the spring.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Enosburgh Ambulance Service at 83 Sampsonville Rd., Enosburg Falls, VT 05450.
