Roger H. Spaulding

ST. ALBANS: Roger H. Spaulding, a longtime area resident, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Homestead Senior Housing.

Roger was born June 27, 1930, in Lee, Maine, the son of the late Florin and Leola Spaulding. Roger was 93 years old.

On November 26, 1955, he married Wanda Raymond who predeceased him on June 4, 2014.

Upon graduating from Lee Academy in 1948 Roger boarded a train for Texas where he enlisted in what was then the United States Army Air Corps later evolving into the United States Air Force. He served his country proudly. While in the Air Force Roger traveled to Guam, Tokyo, Ascension Island, Rio, England, Germany, Scotland, Florida, North Carolina, and Mississippi before settling in St. Albans in 1964 at the 764th Radar Squadron, retiring in 1969 after 21 years of service.

During and following his retirement from the Air Force, Roger also worked at St. Albans Electric Appliance as an electronics technician for over 20 years. Always wanting to be engaged with the public he was later employed by A.N. Deringer as a courier.

A member of many military, fraternal and social organizations, Roger enjoyed participating in the activities of Free and Accepted Masons Franklin Lodge # 4, Scottish Rite Tokyo Japan, Shriners Mount Sinai #3 Montpelier, Northern VT Shrine Club Motor Corps, Royal Order of Jesters Court #151 Montpelier, American Legion Green Mountain Post #1, VFW Post # 758, Elks St. Albans Lodge #1566, St Albans Amateur Radio Club, Champlain Country Club, and the Legion Honor Guard. He also enjoyed serving at Northwestern Medical Center with the Veterans Valet service. Roger certainly loved to participate in as many activities as he could until declining health kept him away. In his spare time, he loved golfing and being a ham radio operator under the call sign K1CRS.

In recent months Roger loved reminiscing about his life often stating “I’ve done okay for being just a kid from Maine”

He is survived by his son Lee (Pat) of St Albans, grandsons, Matthew (Liane) of Georgia, VT, and Benjamin (Karina) of San Diego, CA; his sister-in-law Lucille, nieces Sharon (Walter) and their family, Kathy (Richard) and their family all of Maine, and nephew Kenneth (Phyllis) and family of Georgia. He was predeceased by his sister Pauline and brother Kenneth.
