Katherine Hayden Maddaloni

ARLINGTON, VT: We are heartbroken to announce the death of our mother, Katherine Hayden Maddaloni who passed away peacefully at the age of 73, surrounded by her family after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Kathy was a lifelong resident of Arlington, VT. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Nelly (Robertson) Hayden.

Kathy grew up in Sunderland, VT where she attended Sunderland Elementary School back when the school was divided into four one-room schoolhouses. She later attended Arlington Memorial High School where she developed a strong love for the town and its people.

After graduating from Northampton Junior College, Kathy’s first job was with Bennington College. She later worked as a waitress at the Wilburton Inn in Manchester and then in 1979 started her 40-year career at Orvis. Her colleagues described her as the glue that kept them all together. When she wasn’t working, she was very active in her community, she was a member of the Arlington Fire Department Auxiliary, served as the Treasurer of the Battenkill Grange, was a faithful member of the Federated Church, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She had a smile that was uncontrollably contagious and lit up any room. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with.

Kathy is survived by her daughter Kimberly Lawrence (Jeffrey), her sons Michael Young and Russell Young (Christine Sherman); her grandchildren Jenna Lawrence (Cole Vaillancourt), Shelby Lawrence, Oliver Young, Kenzie Young, and Dylan Young; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and her estranged husband Richard Maddaloni.

Kathy’s family would like to thank the staff at Franklin County Rehab for their wonderful care during her two-month stay.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Honored to be serving the family of Katherine is Rett Heald of the Heald Funeral Home, where messages of condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com
