MONTGOMERY NEWS, December 11, 2023

by Lois Lumbra

On Thursday 12/7: The members of the Quilting Circle enjoyed a holiday luncheon at Bernie’s Restaurant. Eleven lively ladies, decked out in the color of red, dined at Bernie’s enjoying an adult beverage along with a delicious lunch to celebrate another great year of quilting and wishing a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for each other. We welcomed a new member and one lady shared a quilt that she had made years ago. There was much talk and loud laughter as we enjoyed our time together.

Saturday, 12/9: Penny and I attended the huge Craft Show that was held at the Montgomery Elementary School gym. The various vendors displayed beautiful homemade crafts, food, several stitched items such as quilts, pot holders, knitted hats & mittens, beautiful jewelry, hand painted cards, and maple products just to name a few. We had fun visiting with many of our friends.

The wild side of life: Saturday, while getting the mail, I noticed two young hunters, Liam Walker and his friend Isaac Lumbra, in the Walkers’ driveway who had each gotten their doe. They had the assistance of Liam’s dad, Trevor Walker, to go and pick up their deer. Then on my travels, to and from town, the corn fields have been littered with turkeys while feeding.

Sunday, 12/10: John Gordon officiated our Church Service today, with the message entitled “Prepare The Way of The Lord.” Following the service, we had a small thank you presentation with delicious refreshments for John Gorton, Merle Van Gieson, and Patrick Evans for their roles in our Sunday Service. Linda Elkins made her special cheesecake cupcakes with strawberry or blueberry toppings, Lois made donuts and provided cider, and there was a variety of cookies, coffee, and tea. It was a wonderful fun time and we all sincerely appreciate these three fellows for sharing their talents.

Sunday, 12/24: The Montgomery United Methodist Church will have its regular Sunday Church Service at 8:45 am and our Christmas Eve Service is at 5 pm.  We welcome you all.

Happy Birthday wishes to: Barbara Walker, John Newton, Maryann Roberts 12/8; Louise Celantano, Denise Baker, David Burns, Philippa Coville 12/19;  Kim Smith, 12/20;  Mary Richardson, Everett Libby, Pauline Domina 12/21; and Jennifer Kennison 12/23.

** Chuckle of the week:

• Q: What do you call an obnoxious reindeer?

A: Rude-olph

• Q: Why don’t crabs celebrate Christmas?

A: Because they are shellfish.

• Q: What did the beaver say to the Christmas tree?

A: It was nice gnawing You.

God Bless, and have a wonderful week. As I write this, a huge snowstorm is headed our way for tonight and Monday. Take care and do not overdo it if you have a lot of shoveling to do.
