THE MONTGOMERY NEWS, Week of March 25, 2024

by Lois Lumbra

Sunday, 3/24: The weather predictions were correct, we got a major snowstorm, and more in the southern parts of the state down where my brother-in-law lives, near Ascutney Mountain. They got some snow this time when the Montgomery area got 10 inches of snow a couple of weeks ago, they did not get any. So this storm gave them the extra they did not receive, good ole Mother Nature never lets you go without. Today, as the weather person predicted, we have clear skies and sunshine. It has kept Penny outside, shoveling around the yard. The snow is melting away as we speak. Early this morning she cleaned the sidewalk at Church, later went down to help her son shovel their long driveway, and even went for a walk with her dog, Bella, and son David.

Sue Peters had invited me to go to the Senior Dinner, the third Monday of each month, prepared by Parma Jewett. There was delicious Corned Beef and Cabbage, fresh homemade rolls, and cake for dessert. My daughter, Veronica, came from Johnson to join us. She wanted to be with me as this was one year since the passing of her dad and my hubby, Sonny, on 3/18/2023.

Lay speaker John Gorton led our Palm Sunday Service, with his sermon entitled “The Descent.” Our Palm tree was just perfect, so nice and green. Several years ago, I was gifted the palm tree by the ladies at the Real Estate Office, in the Center, and I have kept it in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

John Gorton is having a Thursday Maundy Service at his Church in Sheldon at 6 pm. Merle has planned a Good Friday Service for 5 pm here at the Montgomery United Methodist Church. A Good Friday Service will be at the Highgate Methodist Church at 7 pm.

As Penny and I were going home from grocery shopping on Friday, we turned onto Route 118 in Berkshire and slowed down to watch geese swimming in the river. She continued and there came this big bird…an eagle, flying right over us. Almost missing the sighting, I saw the wide wing span as it flew down near the river.

Sincere sympathy to the family of Melinda Arceneaux-Swearingen. May she rest in peace, love to her family from all her friends at the Montgomery United Methodist Church. God Bless.

Happy Birthday to Marty Lumbra, Brenda Combs, 4/3;  Nancy Martinson 4/5; Alyssa Fuller, Megan Stanley 4/6.

Chuckles of the week:

• Q: Why do basketball players, who love building with Legos, never make it to the March Madness tournament?

A: Because they only throw bricks!

• Q: What do you call ten rabbits marching backward in the Easter parade?

A: A receding hare line!

That’s all for now, as we finish up March on Sunday, 3/31/24

**HAPPY HAPPY EASTER**

LOVE TO ALL,

M.L.T.A.
