Alice L. (Clough) Patterson

On March 16, 2024, our Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Alice Louise (Clough) Patterson, entered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ whom she had faithfully served for many decades. Alice was a longtime area resident and member of Northside Baptist Church, a church that started as a Bible study in her and Max’s living room. Alice passed away at Brownway Residence with her daughter at her side as the angels escorted her to her eternal home. After nearly 31 years of separation, she and her “Maxie” were reunited again.

Alice was born May 27, 1931, and attended school in Canada and BFA St. Albans. She was married for 43 years to Maxwell G. “Max” Patterson who predeceased her on November 13, 1993.

Alice had a variety of jobs but was best known for her excellent seamstress skills. Early on she worked a Rawleigh delivery route, the Richford Dry Cleaners, and the local dress manufacturing shop. She then made the shop her own, Iva’s Dress Shop, named after her mother. After retiring from the manufacturing business, she did tailoring in Burlington and private tailoring in St. Albans. Her last career move was being a caregiver with Franklin County Home Health and some private duty. Mom was a humble, generous, patient individual who always went above and beyond helping the handicapped and shut-ins, building many friendships along the way.

No matter where she and Max were, home, camp, or how busy they were, their door and their arms were always open to everyone.

Survivors include her children, Bruce and Sharon Patterson and Donna Deuso, her grandchildren, Nicole Patterson, Heather and Matt Klee, Stephen and Christen Knapp, Joseph Knapp, Michael Knapp, Russell and Brooke Knapp, Gina and Luke LeClair, and Lisa Deuso and great-grandchildren, Owen, Cole, and Emrys Klee, Griffin Deuso and Damien Patterson. Alice is also survived by her brother, Arthur Clough, sister-in-law, Verna Patterson, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Harold E. and Iva G. (Morse) Clough and husband, Max, Alice was predeceased by her daughter, Shirley Knapp and her son-in-law, Edward Deuso; mother and father-in-law, George and Ruth Patterson; brother and wife, Reginald and Margaret Clough; brothers-in-law, Owen and Kenneth (Laura) Patterson; sisters-in-law, Gloria Clough and Claire (Derrick) Marier; uncle, Walter Clough; nephew, David Clough; niece, Jean Clough, and special friends, Earl Hoben, Doris Foss, and Shirley Thomas.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brownway and Bayada for their kind and comforting care for Alice.

Alice’s family will receive family and friends on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM followed by a service at 11:30 AM at the Northside Baptist Church, 1321 Fairfax Road, St. Albans with Alice’s son, Pastor Bruce Patterson, and Pastor Dan Frost officiating. Interment will be in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Orphanage in Uganda that Alice had previously supported, c/o Northside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1044, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.

Also, Alice loved pretty colors and flowers, so if you choose, wear bright colors and be a part of one big bouquet in her honor.

Honored to be serving the family of Alice Patterson is Rett Heald at the Heald Funeral Home, where messages of condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com
