Judith Elizabeth Hill-Sartwell

Judith Elizabeth Hill-Sartwell of Montgomery Center Vermont was born to Clarence Marcus Gibson and Mary Elizabeth (Brewer) Gibson in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on June 16th, 1950. Judy was called home to be with the Lord on March 4th, 2024 at the age of 73.

Judy moved to Newton, Massachusetts, and met her husband Gerald Hill in 1970. They married in 1972 and together raised four daughters Precious, Maria, Susan, and Kasey. After tragically losing the love of her life, Judy moved to Vermont to continue raising her daughters in an environment reminiscent of where she and Gerry used to vacation. Motherhood brought her endless joy, and she devoted her life to nurturing her children and encouraging them in their passions. Judy was a second mother to her grandchildren and delighted in the time spent with them. In October 2000 she married Michael Sartwell.

Judy was a lifelong learner with a house full of books. She loved reading about God, gardening, and health. She woke early every morning to read the bible, pray, and sing praises to God. Then she would head outside where she had a large flower garden that covered the front yard. Judy loved to cook for her family and wouldn’t let you leave the house without trying her latest recipe. After her children left home, she earned a medical assistance certificate, an associate degree in liberal arts, and a bachelor’s degree in professional studies. She graduated with honors in 2017 at age 66 from Johnson State College. After graduating, she worked in the school system until age 72 when she left to nurse her husband full-time.

Mourning the loss of Judy are her husband, Michael Carl Sartwell, her three daughters Maria Hill (Glover, VT), Susan Elizabeth Hill (Dorset, VT), and Kasey Leandra Hill; along with daughter-in-law Sara Schmidt (Essex Junction, VT). As well as siblings Clarence (Skippy) Gibson (San Diego, CA) and Conchita Garnett (Trevose, PA), and sister-in-law Cyndi Dailey Smith (Newton, MA). Nieces and nephews include William and Christopher Garnett; Erica, Britney and Marcus Gibson; Dondi and Damon Bell; and Karin and Michael Dailey. She also leaves grandchildren Morrow Bernard, Apple, Zephyr, Winter and Haven Hill Barnes, Precious Star Schulze, and her great-grandson Atreus.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Hill; daughter Precious Schulze; and brother Ealious Bell.

Judy will be remembered by those who knew her as the sweetest woman in the world. She was gentle, patient, generous, kind, and found peace in God.
