August 3: The 34th Family Reunion of Walter and Matilda Lumbra was held on Saturday at the Montgomery Recreational Center, catered by Lise Gates of the Dairy Center Restaurant, and was attended by 70 family members who traveled from the states of Maine, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont. The reunion tradition started in 1990 when most of their family was still living. Connie Lumbra McFarland celebrated her 93rd birthday at the reunion, a little early as her birth date is August 12, making her the eldest of the family and the last of her siblings. Her cousin, Geraldine Ruby, will be 87 on August 24. The youngest was 7-week old Liam, grandson of Mary Vaillancourt. Connie was pleased to have her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren all present. Attendees were asked to bring something for the raffle, which was a great hit. It was a very enjoyable fun day.
August 11: The Candlelight Vigil held in Memory of Roberta Martin was well attended at Lincoln Park in Enosburg Falls. Welcoming and Words of Hope were by Rev. Jason McConnell; Singer: Jennifer McConnell; Personal Reflection: Kelly Gervais; Gratitude to the Community: Roberta’s son-in-law, Scott Harris, and Amy Farr from the Vermont State Police Victim and Advocate; Comfort to the Community, Counseling & Community Support: Mary Gratton; Prayer for Peace and Justice: John Gorton. The lighting of the candles lit up the Park beautifully. The brilliant orange-pink sunset was also amazing, lighting up the evening sky. I hope Roberta was watching from Heaven. God bless you all and Thank You!
Tuesday, August 13: The 500 Card met at the lovely home of Sue Cherrier’s residence. Her gardens were full of beautiful blooming flowers and dozens of little hummingbirds coming to the feeders to eat. Sue provided delicious snacks, homemade goodies, a mixture of fruits, cold drinks, and chips. Once it was time to total our scores, the high score was our hostess Sue with 3,440; the second high was Brent Godin with 3.210 who subbed for Marge Cummings. The low score was Stacy Gregoire 1,490 who was playing for Linda Van Gieson, most horses were Lois Lumbra who was subbing for Denise Baker. It was a wonderful fun-filled afternoon.
August 17: The full Sturgeon Moon meadow party went on as planned at the McKinley’s home on North Hill. The prediction was rain but it held off providing a wonderful evening to be outside. There was a wonderful gathering of people from the community who came to enjoy the delicious brisket, corn on the cob and so many delicious potluck casseroles and desserts. At 6 pm, music by the “Nobby Reed Project Band” started playing and several children and adults were dancing after dinner. It was truly a wonderful evening and I saw so many familiar faces. There was a bonfire burning in anticipation of S’mores. I invited my niece Pamela & husband Scott Harris to join me and grandson David Newton. Pamela & Scott brought along their well behaved German Shepherd dog, Bentley, who everyone loved. A very special thank you to Everett & Susan for their love of this community and our friends who are welcome to come with us!!!
August 16-18: Veronica de Saint Phalle, her daughter Samantha Royer, and sister Penny Lumbra went to New Hampshire to visit sister-in-law Karen Lumbra and her family; to see son Tyler Elkins and family. Karen and Penny spent some time traveling around in NH and enjoyed a night out eating fresh seafood. They had a wonderful time. As always Penny is glad to get back home to her comfort zone.
August 18: Our Sunday Church Service was prepared and led by lay speaker John Gorton, with his message entitled “Give Me Wisdom.” Our Joys and Concerns were mentioned which are not published but are all prayed for here at Church each Sunday and during our prayers at home.

Chuckles for the week: 1.) A vegetarian is a person who does not eat meat and frowns at people who do. 2.) If you really wanted people to eat vegetables, would you call it succotash? 3). I once heard a vegetarian say I am so hungry, I could eat a horseradish.
That’s all for this week. The sun has come out and I shall get outside for some fresh air. Hopefully the smoke lingering down around us from the Canadian fires is dissipating. Have a nice week.
Love to all, MTL
