THE MONTGOMERY NEWS, week of AUGUST 5, 2024

Submitted by Lois Lumbra

7/29: Sue Peters invited me to go to Derby to pick up a quilt that she had a friend finish for her. While at that lady’s home, there was a quilt up on a roller that she and her husband were working on. I’m constantly amazed at the works of art by so many talented artistic people who create all these beautiful quilts. There are so many patterns. Since our way home was at lunchtime, we stopped at the Jay Country Store, had lunch, and looked around the store. Wow, there are a lot of nice gifts and reasonably priced.

7/29: Howard and Kathy King visited their family in Connecticut. While there, they attended the Peter Pan Musical that her cousin, Doreen, was playing in. Kathy visited her three daughters and their families. While enjoying being with family everyone tried to keep cool as this hot and humid weather is a nuisance everywhere. Here in Montgomery, Penny Lumbra said the best place to cool off is in Trout River near Comstock Bridge.

8/2: Mike and Sandy Daudelin came early in the morning to decorate the Fellowship Hall at the United Methodist Church, preparing for a 90th Birthday Party for her mother, Martha. Saturday was the day of the party for the families to come together for a luncheon of salads, and one of the most beautiful decorated cakes that Sandy had done with pink roses and pearl beads that she had made. They looked so real. The hall was pretty with pink and white balloons and flowers arranged in cute little teapots. Everyone had a good time at Martha’s surprise party. Martha lived here in the Village several years ago before moving to Richford. She taught Sunday School for several years at this Church, making it a perfect place for her 90th party. Happy Birthday and lots of love to you, Martha!

8/3: In the early morning we had rain and it cleared up so the Farmer’s Market was still able to set up for the forenoon. The wet grass and the sun made the air even more humid, however, the people at the Farmers’ Market stuck it out, bless their hearts.

8/4: On our first Sunday of a new month, lay leader John Gorton led the Church Service, and with Holy Communion. John’s message was entitled “The Power and Responsibility of Preaching.” Our organist, Patrick, and his wife Sharon were back from their family vacation in Maine. John has met with Roberta Martin’s daughter, Pamela Martin Harris, and her husband Scott Harris. They have scheduled a Candlelight Service Remembrance on Sunday evening, August 11, at 7 pm at Lincoln Park on Main Street in Enosburg Falls Village. This terrible tragedy has affected so many people near and far.

Penny just came back from swimming and said it’s thundering. It is getting dark so maybe the rain will arrive here soon and water the plants. I have enjoyed watering the seven barrels and three little trees, three barrels in the park, two at Pratt Hall, one at the Post Office, one at the Methodist Church, and the little trees in the park.

Birthday wishes to Marley Pratt, Liam Walker 8/11; Connie McFarland, Allen Sheltra 8/12; Kate O’Neal 8/13;  Elena Wells 8/14.

Anniversary Wishes to Lars & Rachel Hardy 8/16.

Chuckles for the week:

• “Johnny, your story about “My Dog” is the same as your sisters, did you copy her story?” “No Mame, it’s the same dog.”

Teacher: “Mary how old is your father?”  Mary answered, “He is six years old.” The teacher commented, “Well that sounds impossible.” Mary replied, “He became a father when I was born.”

That’s it for this time folks, enjoy!!! Wishing everyone a nice week. Love to All, God Bless!!!
