THE MONTGOMERY NEWS, NOVEMBER 10, 2024

submitted by Lois Lumbra

November 5: The elections held around the states were well attended, and the voting turnout was exceptional.

November 6: I accompanied Sue Peters and her friends Elsie Saborowski, Patti Perl, and Carol Farmer to the Bowling Alley in Lowell. I have never done any bowling but it sure looks interesting. I do not do much lifting, at my age, and the bowling balls all seemed too heavy for me. When I tried to roll a ball it went into the gutter, all three tries! Yup, I did not even have beginner’s luck however I enjoyed watching people play. Several people from Montgomery played there, so I was among friends. I got out away from my usual TV routine and that was wonderful.

November 7: Lois Babbitt and her visiting sister Doris Williams from Massachusetts invited Connie McFarland and me to go with them to St. Albans. We ate at one of our favorite places the “Lucky Buffet” and enjoyed our food very much.  While there we saw other local people, and we got to congratulate Penny Demar in winning back his seat as our local State Representative. We then went to our favorite shops before returning home. We each had a wonderful fun filled afternoon.
We heard from my nephew, Steve Courville and Sue Allen, that they were leaving the St. Albans area today. Their moving van was scheduled to load to leave for Hickory, NC.  Penny received word that they were safely there on Saturday. We wished them well and to enjoy their new home and North Carolina, they will be quite near family members.
Kathy and Howard King had a nice Friday afternoon visit with cousin Linda and her husband Jim Foster from the state of Washington. Also visiting were cousin Bertha (Sister) Reed from Swanton and her brother Gerald (Junior) and wife Cheryl Jewett from Fairfield. It was a very enjoyable family visit.

November 8: Merle Van Gieson led the Sunday Methodist Church Service, stepping in for John Gorton who was ill, and Vivian Elbe read the scripture. Today we honored the birthday of our organist Patrick Evans. Not forgetting our Veterans as that celebration is Monday, 11/11, we sang a hymn in their memory/honor, “Onward  Christian Soldiers.” We welcomed Will Moses at today’s service, who is a long time friend of mine, from the Black Falls area.
We added a new name to our prayer list, William (Bill) Roberts has passed away. Bill and his wife Lynn purchased the property that was once Richard and Prudy Ryea’s. Bill has been back and forth as he continued his dental practice in Maryland. He and Lynn have had their Maryland residence for sale, she has been here in Montgomery with their son off and on. Our heartfelt sympathy to the Roberts family. This was a shocker to all that knew him here, details are unknown at this time.

Happy Birthday to Harvey Chaffee, Alysa Vallender 11/19; Mack Bolog, Marlee Sylvester 11/20; Jeff McGovern, Natasha Baker 11/21; Veronica DSP, Maryann Ricardo 11/22. Anniversary Wishes to Larry & Marge Cummings 11/22.
