Weekend Roundup: Fairfax Continues Strong Start With Win Over Richford
The BFA-Fairfax and Richford girls soccer teams entered Saturday’s contest on hot streaks to start the season with matching 3-0 records.
It was the Bullets who had an offensive surge behind Emma Spiller and Ava Ardovino that led them to a big 7-2 win during Saturday’s game.
Spiller was fantastic throughout the entire game, as she finished with five of the Bullets’ goals.
“Emma had the game of her life as a freshman on varsity,” said Fairfax coach Jojo Lynch. “She really took charge early in the game and was a force for the duration of the game.”
Ardovino ended the game with two goals, while Bridgett Dunn tallied two assists. Molly Wimette, Anna Sargent and Paige Cargill each had an assist for Fairfax. Kamryn Taylor had three saves in net.
Ella Chagnon scored a goal for Richford on a penalty kick and Kyrielle Deuso also had a goal. Aubrey Fadden finished the game with nine saves.
“Overall this was a great game to watch on both sides,” said Lynch. “Despite the final score, both teams were competitive throughout.”
Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday when Fairfax (4-0) heads to Missisquoi and Richford (3-1) hosts Blue Mountain.
Missisquoi 1, Oxbow 0
Saturday’s contest was a tight one despite the Thunderbirds outshooting Oxbow 14-3. Alex Brouillette’s goal was the difference at the end of a game that the Thunderbirds controlled throughout.
