THE MONTGOMERY NEWS, 8/11/24

Submitted by Lois Lumbra

8/10: Congratulations Elle St. Pierre. We are all so proud of your accomplishments, you are our golden girl and we love you. Best wishes always to you and your lovely family. God Bless.

8/11: Penny and I went to Berkshire and picked up some freshly grilled BBQ Chicken for our lunch, it was delicious, perfectly done and so tender. As we were leaving, friends from Montgomery were arriving to pick up their meals. After lunch, we enjoyed the fresh outdoor air and breeze knowing some rain was predicted later. The Candlelight Vigil is being held tonight in memory of my sister-in-law, Roberta Martin, at 7 pm on Lincoln Park in Enosburg Village.

8/11: Our Montgomery Methodist Church Service was prepared and led by John Gorton, with his message entitled “The Power and Responsibility of Prayer.” John likes to introduce new hymns and today he had the opening prayer with music added. I especially liked the addition of music. Thanks to our wonderful organist Patrick Evans for coming each Sunday to play the organ for us.

There have been visitors in town enjoying Montgomery’s beautiful covered bridges. One family, from the Netherlands, was walking up and met me as I was headed to the park with six gallons of water tucked in the stroller to hydrate the plants in the barrels. Their first words were, “Hello” as they eyed the school bus. “Does your husband drive the school bus?” “No,” I replied, “My daughter does the driving.” They conversed with Penny as I went on to water the plants. She gave them a tour and they chatted about different ways of schooling, etc.  He said their kids either walk to school or ride their bikes on a special path for the kids. Penny found them very interesting and loved their accents. The bus has taken over being the talk of the town, years ago the talk was the style of my house being so historic/gothic style.

Klaus Voos stopped by this week to say he is leaving Montgomery. He has sold his beautiful home on Route 58 and will be going back to Germany to be near his son and sister. He has been lonely since losing his wife Ann a few years ago. The new owners have a dog and Chloe the cat is going to stay with the new family. Klaus was concerned about the cat and dog. I assured him not to worry since Cloe could take care of herself. She goes outside where she has lived for a few years surrounded by all kinds of wildlife. She comes and goes as she pleases. Cloe is a smart little cat who rings the bell at the door to go outside and then rings the outside bell to come back in.  We have taken care of her here for Klaus when he had to be away. She is a survivor and will be okay.

Happy Birthday wishes to: Michelle Legault 8/18;  John Boucher 8/19;  Sonya Peck, Jasper Rainz, Rose Lamoureux 8/20;  Jared Baker, Ed Sorrell, Chase Joyal 8/21;  Robert Elbe 8/23; and Wendy Mercy 8/24.

Chuckles for the week: 1.) Q: How do little bees get to school?  A: They ride the school buzz.  2.) Q: What was mama bear’s favorite baseball team?  A: The Cubs.   3.) Why did the little blackberry cry?  A: His mom was in a jam.

I hope you got a laugh out of the riddles.  Wishing the kids and staff happy two more weeks of summer vacation, school will soon be starting.  Enjoy and keep safe.  Love to All.
