THE MONTGOMERY NEWS, week of November 17, 2024

November 12: The 500 Card Club met at Anita Woodward’s residence at noon, greeted with a little light snow that fell Tuesday morning. The hilltops were covered with snow. She and Larry have a variety of wild birds come to their feeder that we enjoyed watching. Anita and Nancy Martinson were at the head table all afternoon, and even though they got to play with others as we came to the table, they remained partners. When it was time to total up our scores, Anita and Nancy won the whole pot, they had the first and second highest scores of 2680, and 6 horses. We were all disappointed by getting such bad hands, as the 6 bid seemed to be the best, even for Anita and Nancy. The low score went to Carmen Scott 1270. Lois was a sub for Sue Wilson.November 14: Today was the Seniors’ Thanksgiving meal prepared at the Dairy Center.

November 14: Kathy and Howard King hosted Carlton Kaherl and his son, Jason, from Maine for the opening weekend of rifle deer season.

Friday night, November 15th, there were 18 Tetreault family members for supper. They were Gary Sr. from Montgomery, his son, Gary Jr., and Kyle Tetreault from Florida; Napoleon Tetreault Jr. & sons, Jacob Garrow & Napoleon III, and Napoleon & sons, Ben & Luke Tetreault, from CT; Alvey Blier Jr. and sons, Evan & Alvey III Blier, from CT;  Brian Blier & son, Josh, from CT; and Rickey Severino from CT. On Sunday, they all went to Bernie’s Restaurant for breakfast and said their goodbyes until next year.

November 16: The first day of the rifle deer hunting season began. It was so nice out but most of the afternoons are, just cold mornings.

I talked with my nephew, Steve Courville, as he and Sue arrived at their new home in Hickory, NC. They love it, and enjoy the warmer temperatures compared to up north, just what they were looking forward to. Sounds good to me also, our weather is so weird, cold warm, cold warm, can’t seem to make up its mind.

November 17: John Gorton prepared and led our Church service, which included the sermon “Do Not Be Alarmed.”

After church, I called Tiffany to pick up the two Hannafords bags filled with canned food and a new pan and oven mitts that were dropped off at church. She said they were getting Thanksgiving baskets ready for several area families in need. The Elementary School students are collecting pennies for their fundraiser “Penny Palooza” to support their Holiday Giving Program. If you know someone in need, please contact the Principal, Sandy Alexander.

Chuckles of the week:
• Q: What do you get if you cross a turkey with an octopus? A: Enough drumsticks for a large family. • Q: What do you call a turkey the day after Thanksgiving? A: LUCKY • Q: What do you expect at the end of Thanksgiving? A: The letter G

It is a nice sunny afternoon today. I visited with my neighbor Gila for a few minutes. Across the street, people were stopping to look at the Frank Elkins’ trophy buck, a 13-pointer, weighing 199 lbs. dressed.

That’s all for this week.  Love to all, LL
