David Patrick Zier

ST. ALBANS: David Patrick Zier, age 72, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2022. 

He was born in Perth, Australia, on September 13, 1950, the son of David and Barbara (Allen) Zier. He was the proud owner and operator of the Deli Market in Utica, NY, then was employed for many years at Remington Firearms, retiring in 2017, when he moved to Vermont to spend time with his family.   

It was extremely important to David to spend time with his family, traveling to see his brothers, sister, and extended family. David was a patriot, loved his country, and was a man of faith. His favorite passion was history, especially the Civil War. He also was an avid drummer and loved music. He loved to cook, and owned a Harley Davidson, and a 1968 Mustang which he spent many hours with. David was a Yankees, Redskins, and NASCAR fan. He had a passion for collecting many special things. He loved spending many hours with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

David is survived by his faithful canine companion, Markey who was always with him; two sons, Shawn Zier (Joe’i Jacobs-Zier) of St. Albans and Ian Zier (Becky) of Swanton; grandchildren, Karley Zier and Keegan Zier; siblings, Terri Black of Hagerstown, MD, Dan Zier (Mary) of Wilmington, DE, and Pete Zier (Joyce) of Manassas, VA; his former wife and friend Gail Perras of Swanton; and many special nieces, nephews (Michael, Jennifer, Jason, Angel, Tara, Ashley, Jake and Katie); and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his parents David and Barbara Zier.

A private Remembrance Gathering will be held at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Quantico National Cemetery.

As an alternative to flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Franklin County Animal Rescue.
